Airports & Aviation

An airport runs many organisations on one estate: the operator, airlines, ground handlers, security and government agencies. Each needs its own view of shared infrastructure data, and the operator needs analytics across all of it.

Workload shape

WritesBursty telemetry, steady records
ReadsOperational lookups plus daily analytics
TenancyMany organisations, strict boundaries
RetentionMonths of events, years of records
Where the design fits

How the data lands

Design fit, not a customer claim: which parts of UltraFabric carry which parts of this workload.

  • Asset, gate and work-order records as row collections with snapshot-isolation transactions
  • Sensor readings, passenger-flow counts and video-analytics events as append-only columnar collections
  • One tenant per airline or agency; the verifier rejects any plan whose result could depend on another tenant's rows
In SQL

What it looks like

Every row the query reads is the requester's tenant's; the plan is verified before the first row is scanned.

CREATE TABLE gate_events (id bigint PRIMARY KEY, gate text NOT NULL,
  kind text, at timestamp, pax int) WITH (storage = columnar);

SELECT gate, count(*), sum(pax)
  FROM gate_events
 WHERE at >= '2026-10-01' GROUP BY gate ORDER BY gate;

Built today, coming next

Everything in the first column is in the repository and tested; the second column is the roadmap in order.

Built today

  • Row and columnar collections with identical schema and security semantics
  • Tenant isolation checked on the data node for every query, whoever wrote it
  • TPC-H style analytics with answers equal to DuckDB's at SF 0.1

Next

  • A dedicated time-series engine measured on TSBS
  • Streaming ingestion and change-data capture
  • Multi-node replication before any hosted deployment
